About us
The world is WiW’s field of work
We write, we research, we evaluate and we train. We are specialised in global themes: development cooperation, migration, sustainable trade, climate, environmental issues, etc.
We combine the rigour of a scientific approach with practical answers to policy issues, and the transparency of a journalistic style.
We try to put the voices of the people concerned centre stage. Their stories are key.
WiW is a member of MVO Nederland (Dutch CSR organisation) and of the SDG Charter.

WiW’s four colleagues:
-
The founder and captain. We sometimes wonder if there’s anything he hasn’t done. Journalism, research, science… And in various roles, such as editor-in-chief and PhD-candidate. Always championing the use of stories in evaluations. At the office, he is famous for his dry sense of humour. And for playing the devil’s advocate. ‘That Boris Johnson guy has some valid points.’ Or is it irony? He detests jargon and selling hot air. Tried and tested, averse and thinking outside of the box: this is Roeland Muskens.
-
He is Chief Journalism at WiW. Although he himself would prefer to be a ‘souschef’, because it’s such a nice word. He likes to read and write challenging, tantalizing texts. At the office, he comes fourth in terms of humour. He’s currently coating his journalistic background with a literary top layer, and he won’t hesitate to combine the two genres: journalism and literature. For storytelling, you can really wake Menno Bosma up.
-
A researcher, but one who has been ‘in the field’ herself, in places such as Nigeria and Bangladesh. And who is also familiar with the policy side because of her time at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She’s always looking for the individual human story behind international aid programmes. But also close to home, as is shown by her graduation film project Parked, about undocumented homeless migrants in Amsterdam. Participatory methods are her thing: let the target groups speak for themselves. Pleased to meet you: Saskia Hesta, or Hestia, as you like.
-
Migration issues are her specialty. She prefers to dive deep into the lives of migrants, because this is the only way to fully understand the impact of migration. She also likes to explore other global themes, such as climate and social injustice. She’s a wizard with statistical methods and qualitative research. She’ll search for creative ways to share results - by involving artists, for example. She has an eye for maintaining high quality standards, without losing herself in details. Yours truly: Caarls, Kim.
